Ubuntu 10.04 with iPod Touch

Ubuntu 10.04 now support iPod touch and i'm assuming it will support iPhone too. It's truly plug n play, no more hassle on installing plugins to make your iPod works with Rhythmbox.

It even mount the iPod touch filesystem like normal flashdrive would do, but its kind of limitied to var/user/media directory, but its more than enough because you don't even need to install any third party software to make it work.

the only missing feature is the "sync" option, i couldn't find it anywhere in the menu. maybe its time for Dtunes*.

Good work Ubuntu..

*i'm using the full install of Ubuntu 10.04 and still enjoying it..

*ditching Windows for a while until i come across a very BIG reason to revert back to windows.

*dtunes: third party music player for jailbroken device

Brushes on my iPod

First art on my iPod.. after some grueling hours with biochemistry textbook i spend about 30 minutes on this painting. Fully painted on my iPod touch with the app called "Brushes" available on iTunes for $4.99 as usual there's always other way of getting it :-). It is in B&W because i really don't want to mess with colours, i'm not good at colour. :-p

i'll try to sketch other thing on my iPod, if my drawing is improving i will consider for an iPad...

OS 4.0

Since the first OS, a lot has improved.. The reality is, Apple intentionally release the feature bit by bit just to make their customer feels its a great product. Most of the iPhone, iPod Touch are jailbroken, and Cydia always hears the owners prayers. Lets hope that the release of the OS4.0 today will bring something superior than what we can get on Cydia for now.

My hope for today OS4.0 announcement
1.Bluetooth DUN profile
2.FM radio. I hope the chip will be unlock today.(most of the people said it is impossible due to lack of antenna)
3.New way to transfer picture(drag&drop)

what i would hate to hear:
1.bug fixes
2.$5.99 to upgrade

Oh God.. Nice to see my iPod can now transfer files using bluetooth like any normal gadget.. Hey Apple can't you just hear our little voice on bluetooth.

Thanks to the hardcore coders like

It is the rebranded apps that appear a long time ago in Cydia called the iBluetooth, but back a few years earlier the iBluetooth only support the iphone, there is no support for iPod Touch which left the iPod Touch user at the back alone, now it is already supported on iPod Touch too.

To install, make sure you add this repo to Cydia:
sinfuliphonerepo.com does host a number of cracked popular apps, so if cracked apps makes you feels guilty, install the one from ispazio repo & of course it cost you $5.99.

I tried this App and it just works!!hahha. I already transfered .jpeg, .3gp ,. mp3.. These three format extension should be enough for a casual user but i THINK it can accept all kind of files that you throw at it.

The test was done using SEk770i. It got good data transfer of about 50kbps & i found(http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=264613) several other phone also works

The main page is nicely grouped into 4 subgroup, "Rapid Switches" for toggling you bluetooth on/off and your device visibility.
Second group is the "File Manager", it handles about which file you're about to send.

3rd group is the "Activity" group, the name is self explanatory and the last group is the 'Others" group which shows two option, the settings and info.

This app also allow you to change your iPod's bluetooth name & configure your file location whether in library or on the iPod's file system(this only work with images) while videos and music will be simply saved at the
private/var/mobile/media/downloads/yourtube by default.

All in all this is a great little tweak and adds a huge value to the iPhone/iPod Touch. In my opinion this app adds a missing piece to the iPhone that should of been there from the start.

Sharepod

Loading iTunes proves to be an annoying process you'd ever encounter if you use a low end computer... just imagine you need to transfer a few tracks to your ipod, its not worth of waiting itunes load up the whole crap..

Thanks to Sharepod, www.getsharepod.com
This little free app support the ipod touch and iphone and not just ipods that support disk mode(1st gen to nano 5g).. everything was smooth from the beginning the app was being loaded to the end of the process(ejecting the ipod).

list of thing that sharepod can do;
1. copy tracks to ipod
2.edit, add playlist
3.capable af editing ID3 metatag(artwork, lyric, album,etc...)
4.capable of playing tracks on your ipod.
5.view photos
6.copy all content in your ipod to pc.

i think it is more than enough(well, not all)..

Driver for the iphone or ipod touch is not compiled with the sharepod, dunno why.but maybe copyright issue or to keep the software as light as possible to be downloaded.. this means that you still need to install itunes. anyway, you still gonna use it sometimes because sharepod still does not support application syncing.

Blackra1n

Yesterday, after some serious study, I started to listen to music with my ipod touch as usual.. Out of nowhere while listening to the music I tap on the Cydia icon and the only thing happen is nothing. (my ipod touch just make dono). I tapped several times more but still with the same result. I tried a solution on youtbe but doesn't seems to work. My cydia crashed!!!

Without Cydia, a jailbroken ipod touch/iphone is nothing compared to the not yet-jailbroken devices out there. So I searched back the OS 3.1.2 firmware that I downloaded months ago in my flash drive and start restoring my ipod touch.

The only difference in this Jailbreaking process is it is really one-click process, no more DFU mode(hold both button for 20 sec then release 1 button then releaese the other one). entering DFU mode proved to be a tricky task for first timer, they usually didn't get the timing and confused wether they have entered the DFU mode and the most annoying thing happen is when they post threads on multiple forum with some sorts of standard whining title PLEEASE..PROBLEM!!. Thanks to Blackra1n

Steps:
1. Download the OS/firmware or whatever you want to called it. .ipsw
http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
then the jailbreak software (both mac and windows are supported)
http://blackra1n.com/

2.Restore wtih the OS/firmware.. go to itunes>click on your ipod/iphone>on the 1st tab click restore+shift so that it will prompt you where is the location of the .ipsw file. let itunes restore it

3.After itunes finished.close itunes and run Blackra1n.exe it will do the rest for you..

4.after the ipod/iphone rebooted blackra1n icon should appear.
5. tap on the Blackra1n icon and select cydia or both Cydia and Rock to be installed...then you can choose to uninstall the blackrain or just leave it there. I choose to leave it there. no big deal.

p/s: i'm not very sure about the baseband, so for iphone owner please do some research before performing these steps or you will probably loose the unlock
