Raspberry Pi Case

 i dont know whether you guys still remember this, or ever used this :D . But i found one at my house. the base box gave me an idea that i should build my raspberry pi's case around it. since the box is a little bigger than the raspi board, it simply provide me with an ample room to incorporate a 16x2 display into it. now i no longer need to plug it into my tv to get the ip address like before

now it is much easier is my router somehow assign new ipAddress to my Raspberry Pi.

 the board mount is made from scrap plastic leftover of my previous pc build. thanks to Mr. Epoxy for holding all the plastic pieces securely :D

[ last peek before it is closed for good.  the gpio>lcd cable are all soldered (got no time to test it on breadboard, i simply soldered it directly)  lol!

Hari ni nk citer pasal Raspberry Pi ni.. Punya la lama menunggu last dpt jugak beli nih..
Tuk pengetahuan semua, Raspberry Pi ni lebih krg mcm komputer yg complete jgk la, ada processor n ram sume atas board tu jd tinggal nk beli sdcard je nk suh dia run.

Takat ni aku ada beberapa idea tuk Raspberry Pi nih, n sume da siap setup and running 24/7..

1. Samba Server = share media yg ada dlm ext hard disk
2. XBMC = media player, gpu mende ni boleh tahan. Boleh play 1080p video
3. torrent downloader/seeder.

ape yg buat aku impressed sgt ngan mende ni adalah dia punya power consumption. Ada user yg report ckp mende ni consume ~2watts. so kalau tmbah external hdd(2.5watt) tu adalah kot dlm ~5watt. Tuk perbandingan, normal light bulb fluorescent skrang ni secara average nye guna dlm 26-36watt, so kira mende ni sgt la jimat letrik. PC = 20-30watt klu xde "load" mcm game. klu main game sng2 je cecah 200-300 watt.

   Tpi Raspberry Pi ni bukan tuk semua lapisan masyrakat, di sebabkn processor yg slow tu, nk run desktop environment (lxde) akn buat dia sgt lmbb. i'm talking about when you click, you need to wait another 5sec for an app to load. So, jalan terbaik adalah operate Raspberry Pi ni dari command line interface CLI . xde la nk "drag n drop" "click2 here n there" "pinch to zoom", everything is done via text input from user.

Bg yg nak beli, anda boleh la dptkn kt di sini dgn harga RM111. Company Element 14 ni boleh respect la, aku bayar thru Maybank2U pastu update payment around 3ptg(lambat), tpi tnpa di sangka2 brg smpai keesokan harinya pkul 11 pg. cepat! Aku: potong blakang pendek, tepi ptong pendek, atas potong sket jer, sideburn takat ni.

lastly, secare automatik rmbut aku yg tinggal sikit bukan potong skit.

masalah btul barber ni, panjang instruction aku bg last2 yg dia dengar "pendek" jer. :-) ni yg aku hadapi sejak 20 thun dulu kowt. nk pegi saloon bgai mmg xde duit la, so jz just stick kt barber ni la. :)

Crysis 2 fix (cutscene not playing)

For those who could not wait for a few more weeks to play the Crysis 2 i'm sure you faced the same problem as i do while playing the Beta leak of the game(cutscene error)

Here's the fix, i discovered it by chance while trying to get the cutscene to play:
1. Run the game in "windowed mode"
2. press "ctrl+alt+del" when your computer get stuck to play the cutscene. select Task manager
3. when the task manager appeared, it will be on top of the Crysis 2 window, just wait a little bit longer and the cutscene should be playing by now w/o sound.
4.to get the sound, click on the crysis 2 window to make it on top of the task manager.

*ikot sata power cable datasheet, 3.3v, 5v, 12v di support n magically its automatically selected bila di-connect.(jimat duit disitu sbb aku ade 2.5" hd yg da lame tsadai)

Laptop Buying Guide(with Graphic)

This post is dedicated to those who wanted a versatile laptop (gaming+office work+entertainment).

Before we start, there is a few rule/consideration about laptop with graphic chip inside.
1.battery wont last more than 3 hours especially when playing games w/o nvidia optimus
2.speaking of versatile, don't put much hope to get high setting on newer games. they're just cheap 3rd class graphic being tossed inside to attract you with competitive price
3.heat: its a common problem.
4.its not upgradable like its desktop cousin, at least not w/o serious workaround

the site linked above is a site which they rank mobile graphic card according to their benchmark score, they give us numbers to get exact performance of the graphic chip.

consideration before buying
1.capacity vs speed 512Mb 750Mhz vs 1Gb 600Mhz
2.price
3.other spec (cpu, ram)


Capacity vs Speed
Famous scenario when looking at the graphic sticker on the laptop is people tends to get graphic card with more memory. let say 512Mb vs the 1Gb, most of them will go towards the 1Gb card which sometimes have a lower speed than the 512Mb card. why they're doing this? they wants to lure you to pay more w/o any noticeable effect. Think that the manufacturer is the devil, they wants your money! So check the link provided above, go for higher rank graphic if you're in a dilemma between 512Mb vs 1Gb

How much graphic memory do you need?? Slower card wont benefit from 1Gb, there is simply not enough time for it to fills the memory due to its slowness, its like filling a big basin with small pipe, it does take longer time to fill it, but sometime you just dont have the time to wait for it to fill. For now 512Mb is just nice to play with 3rd class graphic card(versatile laptop always come with these 3rd class graphic).

*256Mb card just don't make sense these days, don't buy it if you want to play games released this year


Other Spec:
1.CPU speed: go for low CPU and try to get better graphic one. most game demands only dual core CPU to be played. so i3 is more than enough unless you are going to use your laptop for *serious calculation. serious= calculate pi number up to bajilions decimal points. normal people take it as 3.142 :-p
2.RAM: DDR2 vs DDr3. go for DDR3 its faster but i think in a few month there will be no more laptop with DDR2 memory. 2Gb is barely enough to run Splintercell Conviction so go for 4Gb instead.
3.Ati vs Nvidia: no definite winner, but some says(wild speculation) ati heats up easily.
4.Avoid intel Graphic media accelerator (GMA Hd graphic) no matter how big the memory is. Simply awful graphic to get game even running!

Range: Rm2000~Rm2400 don't expect this price for laptops from Sony or Apple :-p

*From my experience: acer, hp, compaq tends to overheat easily. i don't know why but sometimes it is just luck is not on your side. some unit that i've known work for 24/7 up to 4 years without any problem but some start to show something only after a few month of light usage.
*"nvidia optimus" is graphic switching technology. Gives the laptop ability to automatically switch between power sucking graphic to low powered integrated intel graphic when not in use. Go for it if you want more battery life.



Anyway gudluck. :-p
